Welcome to oracle readings at the markets blog

Carol and I at our first markets late 2019

In this month’s blog I discuss manifesting my own stall at the markets for my business from scratch. I share my journey from an idea in my mind of having a stall at the local markets to taking steps, facing my fears and manifesting oracle readings at the markets in my reality! 🙂

Inspiration for my business

Throughout my life I’ve always had ideas that turn into dreams to work towards and sooner or later I achieve these dreams. Sometimes differently to how I originally first envisioned the dreams in my head. This is a big part of why I named my business Believe in your Dreams Oracle, because I want to inspire people to believe in and work towards their dreams. I know its possible and that everyone can do it.

Believing in my own impossible dreams

I know that dreams can come true, even when we feel like it’s impossible. After I moved out of home at age 17, where there was enormous odds against me doing it, I realised that I can do anything that feels impossible. This has always inspired me! Knowing that even when we think something is impossible and we’re not strong enough to do it, we can still do it.

The main ingredients are belief and a positive mindset, hope, not giving up a sense of humor and trusting in the universe to support us to find a way and to bring other people to come along to help us at the right time. Plus surrendering our dreams to the universe to bring us the ultimate outcomes – things dont always turn out as we planned them! They’re often better in the long run! Inspiration for oracle readings at the markets

For 5 or more years I’ve been plugging away doing stuff related to my business, including my own website, social media and my own oracle card set – Wild Earth Oracle. Going to the markets and holding a stall is a relatively new idea and I’m not sure where it originally came from. It might have been when I’ve visited Eumundi markets and seen readers there. They inspired me to want to do this too.

It took many years to develop confidence to be able to do this. Running stalls for work – promoting the service I work for as a counsellor – helped to build my confidence. I also worked in hospitality for years during my second degree, so I’m very used to making conversations with complete strangers.

It also helps that I have a part time flexible shift work job with a regular income, so I have the time and space to work on my own business projects.

Getting Believe in your Dreams Oracle out into the world

I thought holding a market could be a good way to get my name out into the local community and build a positive reputation, so people will want to choose me as their oracle reader and refer their friends and family to me. This has started to happen organically, as I have barely promoted my business yet. I often get people asking me to do a reading for them and its usually because they were told about me by someone they know or they see me reading my own Oracle cards at one of the local cafes.

I know too that to have more people who want to order a reading from me, I need to have loads more reviews and to have my name out there, so doing a market in the local area could certainly support this to happen. Read on how I made this dream in my head a reality in my oracle readings at the markets blog.

From dreams in my head to making it a reality

I thought a lot about this idea for a while and imagined doing it inside my head many times. I then began making lists of stuff I needed for my stall and imagining how I’d set it up. I went to other markets and gathered information on my phone notepad about pricing and set ups.

I talked to other people about my idea and my husband even brought me my marquee to help me with my set up.  I also had a friend interested in joining me at the stall with her handmade items-Carol. Once I started to buy stuff for my stall, I then started to apply for markets. This was my way of testing the waters and to see how I felt if I got accepted and to give me a shove to get my ‘shit together’. I knew it was time to actually give it a go.

My first application for a stall was rejected.

My first application was rejected on religious grounds-surprise, surprise! Funny how this has always been my worst fear-that people would reject me because I’m an oracle and tarot reader. But the ironic thing was that, when it actually happened, it didn’t really bother me at all as I understood their point of view.

It did make me feel a bit nervous applying for other stalls but after my first yes, I felt a lot more confident to apply for other markets.

Often people can give on their dreams after the first rejection, thinking that it’s a sign they’re not meant to do it. I see rejection as the universe’s way of putting us on a better path and closing a door that isn’t right for us. I always trust something better will come along.

Finally setting up of the stall for the first time

Getting that first yes was so exciting for me! I was over the moon that it was actually going to happen.  I had to quickly get the rest of the stuff for my stall and chat to Carol about her part of it. She was very excited and nervous too!

On the day before the stall, I put my stall together for the first time. It was raining that day (or course!) and I had to quickly get it up, take photos and get it down again. I got rained on a bit but I didn’t mind, I was too excited and I loved my stall.

It’s a great feeling when an idea from your head becomes an actual reality and you see it come to life.

My stall was different to how I dreamt it would be

When I was dreaming of going to the markets I always envisioned going to Redcliffe markets. The ironic thing was that they didn’t have enough room for my stall. And that’s an important point about making the dreams in your head a reality; sometimes it turns out different to how you hope it will. That’s why it’s so important to always be open to your dreams turning out in ways that are different to how you imagine it and this can sometimes be so much better in the long run!

I’d have to say the market we ended up at for our first stall was better than I imagined. It was a little low key petite market, but the best thing about it is I’m the only reader so I have a ‘captive market’. I also had a friend with me who I trusted and get along well with, plus she had items that are pretty to look at so we had lots of people look and come and have a chat with us.

Having a friend with me was also different to how I imagined it in my dreams. It’s nice not to have to do it on my own and I can have as many toilet breaks as I need and not have to worry about theft.

Important things to make dreams a success.

Knowing I had a friend coming with me at the markets really provided motivation to make this happen too; I didn’t want to let her down. It also helped that the people who owned the markets were really nice and supportive and one of them liked my Facebook page.

When going out of your comfort zone and trying something new, which is what I was doing, having supportive people around you really helps you to be able to put yourself out of your comfort zone. It’s got to feel safe to be able to do this.

Having a small level of success doing it also helps to develop your confidence in what you’re doing and enables you to feel comfortable to continue going out of your comfort zone and achieving your dreams.

Having a sense of humour is vital

A good sense of humour is also vital! Being open to the glitches that will usually occur when you first start. My first chairs were too low and hard for people to get themselves out of. Carol’s stuff kept flying off when we hung it up and my marquee walls weren’t secure enough. I had to adjust them a few times. It’s all just learning and we just laughed and got on with it and made a list for next time.

Sometimes if people have embarrassing stuff happen or if they don’t get sales or make money straight away they feel dejected and give up. We didn’t get many sales for our first one, but we did get a lot of interest and many people felt comfortable to say hello to us. The market owner also informed us that it will take time, but eventually people will buy from us, which we thought might be the case.

Having a positive mindset helps

I felt really happy before, during and after the markets. It was a very energising experience for me, I haven’t felt that energised about work for ages really and I didn’t even make any profit. Belief and a positive mindset is so helpful for perservering with your dreams.

Feeling happy and energized is a good feeling to build on and it makes me want to keep trying. Everything is a risk and you’ve got to persevere, but if it feels good when you do it and it’s fun, you’ll want to keep putting yourself out there and trying.

One day I hope to make money doing but it’s okay right now, because I already have a stable income I can rely on.

My second successful application

I took photos of our fist stall and used these to apply for another market successfully. I’ve since applied for two more markets that are on a Friday night. I don’t work Friday night so this is a perfect night for me and I have another friend who’s keen to come to one of these markets with me too, which is very exciting!  She has some great stuff that she’s going to bring, along with her family to help us. So amazing to have so much support. It’s all happening now and it feels great doing it!

The next step for this dream.

I’m so excited about the next stall we hold, and I’ve been told this one is a lot bigger and we can make some profit. Slowly does it for me though, I like to take my time and not rush into new ventures.

I’m imagining making a profit this time and selling more in my head. I’ve put my positive affirmations at my desk to repeat regularly and I’ve made some changes to my stall. I’ve added some more butterflies, crystals and some new cute fairies, unicorns and a mermaid figurines for atmosphere. We’ll see how it goes, but I’m enjoying the ride.

One day I’m envisionin being able to drop 1 and then more shifts at my work to pursue my own business interests successfully. I’d love to travel around the markets and do more online readings with people. More dreams to manifest!

It’s wonderful to see a dream come true that’s been imagined in head and knowing that I made it happen with the help of the universe and my wonderful support network. It’s a good feeling.
